Yahoo Mail Settings in Outlook: IMAP & SMTP
Yahoo Mail is an email service for private account, provided by Yahoo! Inc. You can create a free Yahoo email address at https://login.yahoo.com and migrate your existing emails to your new account using the MailJerry Email Migration Tool.
To setup your new Yahoo email address in Outlook 365, you need to add the following Yahoo Mail Settings in Outlook:
Yahoo Mail Settings in Outlook: Incoming Emails via IMAP
Add the following Yahoo Mail Settings in your Outlook Email Client for all incoming emails using IMAP (recommended):
Yahoo IMAP Server | imap.mail.yahoo.com |
IMAP Port | 993 |
IMAP Security | SSL / TLS |
Requires Authentication | ✅ |
Username | your Yahoo email address (e.g. mailjerry@yahoo.com) |
Password | your Yahoo password |
Yahoo Mail Settings in Outlook: Outgoing Emails
Now add the following Yahoo Mail Settings in your Outlook Client for all outgoing emails:
Yahoo SMTP Server | smtp.mail.yahoo.com |
IMAP Port | 465 or 587 |
SMTP Security | SSL / TLS |
Requires Authentication | ✅ |
Username | your Yahoo email address (e.g. mailjerry@yahoo.com) |
Password | your Yahoo password |
Yahoo Mail Settings in Outlook: POP
Alternatively to IMAP, you can also use POP to add your Yahoo Mail settings in Outlook
Want to use POP3 instead of IMAP?
If you’d like to use POP3 to add your Yahoo Mail Settings in Outlook, add these settings instead of the IMAP settings for incoming emails:
Yahoo POP Server | pop.mail.yahoo.com |
POP Port | 995 |
POP Security | SSL / TLS |
Requires Authentication | ✅ |
Username | your Yahoo email address (e.g. mailjerry@yahoo.com) |
Password | your Yahoo password |
What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?
When configuring Yahoo Mail settings in Outlook, one important decision you will need to make is whether to use IMAP or POP for incoming emails.
If you choose IMAP, any changes you make to your emails (such as deleting or marking them as read) will be reflected across all devices you use to access your email, while with POP, changes will only be reflected on the device you downloaded the messages to. When configuring your Yahoo Mail settings in Outlook, it’s important to consider your personal needs and preferences to determine which protocol is the best fit for you.
Rule of thumb: Usually, it’s advisable to use IMAP instead of POP as IMAP allows you to access the same emails on many different devices (smartphone, tablet, PC). If your mailbox is very large and you need to save storage capacity, POP is the best option for you, as emails will be downloaded to your device, saving storage capacity in your mailbox.
