Should I use IMAP or POP?

The main difference between the IMAP and POP / POP3 protocols is the storage location of your emails: With IMAP, your emails are stored on the umbler mail servers. When using POP, your messages are downloaded from the server and stored on your device. After the download, the message is usually deleted from the mail server.

Downloading your emails to your device using POP is convenient when working on your emails while you're offline. However, if the device you downloaded your email to is lost or broken, your message is lost as well. Therefore, it's important to regularly perform a backup of the device containing your emails.

IMAP, on the other hand, keeps your emails stored on the umbler email servers. So when losing your device, you can simply re-add your email address to another device and access all emails.
