For the email migration, you’ll need to:
- Generate an app password for your Gmail account.
- Activate IMAP for your Gmail account.
Why do I have to do this?
Google requires you to enable IMAP in your Gmail account and use an app password instead of your account password when migrating your emails. But don’t worry, both configurations are set up in no time, simply follow the next few steps:
Generate an App Password for Your Gmail Account
1. Go to https://www.gmail.com/ and log in to your account.
2. Click on the accounts icon in the toolbar and select “Manage your Google Account”.
3. In the left navigation bar, choose “Security”.
4. Scroll down to “How you sign in to google” and make sure that 2-Step Verification is turned on.
5. Now click on “2-Step Verification” (or the arrow next to the 2-step verification status).

How long will it take to transfer emails from Gmail to another account?
The time it takes to migrate your emails depends on the amount of data you wish to migrate. Small accounts can be finished within a few minutes, while larger mailboxes may take some time.
Google slows down the migration speed of your emails to your new account once a certain data limit is reached, and the migration may take several hours. However, you don’t have to worry about this. You can simply shut down the MailJerry app and even your computer, as all data is directly transferred between Gmail and your other account.
Can I use my Gmail account during the migration?
Yes! You can use your Gmail account as usual to read, write and send emails during the migration. It’s important, however, to activate the Mailbox Sync for your email migration. The mailbox sync ensures that emails received (and sent) during the migration will be added to your new account once the initial email migration is complete.
