Rogers Email: Free Mailboxes Powered By Yahoo

Rogers Communications is one of Canada's largest telecom providers, offering Internet, cable, wireless, and home phone services to millions of households. For Rogers Internet subscriber, the plan also includes up to 10 email addresses at no extra cost – a nice perk for families or small businesses that want personalised @rogers.com addresses without paying for a separate email provider.

What many people don't realise is that Rogers email is powered by Yahoo. This means that all inboxes run on Yahoo's mail infrastructure behind the scenes, even though all email address end with @rogers.com. This setup gives Rogers users access to Yahoo's webmail interface, spam filtering, and storage. On the flip side, it also means that connecting third-party email clients requires a specific setup process – requiring the use of an app password rather than the regular account password.

Do you have an @rogers.com email address and wish to add it to your email client? Let's walk through the configuration step by step!

How to Configure Your Rogers Email Address

To set up your Rogers email in a third-party client like Outlook, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird, you'll need an app password instead of your regular account password. Since Rogers email runs on Yahoo, this extra step keeps your account secure when connecting through IMAP or POP. Here’s how you can easily create an app password:

  • Sign in to the Rogers Yahoo Account Security page.
  • Under "External connections," click „Create app password“.
  • Enter a name for your app (e.g. "Outlook" or "MailJerry").
  • Click „Generate password“.
  • Copy the generated password – you'll use it instead of your regular password for any email software.

Once you have your app password, you're ready to add the Rogers email settings below to your email client or an migration tool.

What is better: IMAP or POP?

For most people, IMAP is the way to go: The protocol syncs your inbox across every device, so anything you read, delete, or move on your phone is reflected on your laptop and webmail too.

POP downloads your messages to one device and removes them from the server. This can help if your Rogers mailbox is running low on storage. The trade-off: Emails accessed via POP won't show up on your other devices, and if that device is broken or lost and doesn't have a backup, your messages are gone, too.

👍 Therefore, we recommend to stick with IMAP unless you specifically need local storage on a single computer.
