Last verified: Dec 2023

Secure Email Setup with these Proton Mail Server Settings

Founded by scientists and engineers with a focus on privacy in 2013, ProtonMail stands out for its end-to-end encryption, ensuring users' communications remain confidential. As an independent and privacy-focused email provider, ProtonMail has gained popularity for its commitment to data security. Following its mission to create an internet that respects privacy, Proton Mail accounts are protected by the latest security features, leaving no chance to cyberattacks.

In contrast to other providers (such as Tutanota), Proton Mail offers a convenient and reliable way to add your mailbox to your email client. Thanks to the Proton Bridge, you can enjoy the ease of use of established email programs such as Outlook or Apple Mail while being sure that your email data remains encrypted and safe.

How to Add Proton Mail to Your Email Client?

In order to add your Proton Mail account to your email client, you first need to install the Proton Mail Bridge software. This software handles the encryption and decryption of your emails in the background and ensures that your communication stays safe.

Username Your email address (youraddress@domain.com)
Password Leave empty – gets generated by the Proton Mail Bridge

Proton Mail POP3 Email Settings

Due to it's architecture, Proton Mail does not support POP3. However, if you wish to download your emails to your device, the Proton Bridge allows you to download your emails, freeing up storage space in your account. Therefore, there is no need to use POP3 with your Proton Mail account at all!
