POP3 or IMAP: What's Best for My PolarisMail Account?
The answer to this questions depends on how you'd like to use your Polaris email address:
IMAP is best if you plan to add your email address to multiple devices (e.g. mobile, desktop and tablet). With IMAP, changes you make to an email are syncronized across all devices. This is possible because with IMAP, your emails are stored on the PolarisMail email servers. Another upside: You don't have to worry about backups, as they are performed by your email provider.
POP is a good choice if you have a very large mailbox and run out of storage capacity. The POP protocol downloads your messages to your device and – according to your settings – deletes them from the PolarisMail servers. But be aware of the downsides when using POP: You have to back up your emails regularly, as they will be lost in case your device is broken. Furthermore, multi device use isn't as straightforward as when using IMAP.
➡️ Given these differences, it's best to opt for IMAP in most cases.
