Most Popular Email Providers:The Data Basis
The following findings are based on email migrations performed with our tool between 2021 and 2024. For 2025, we’ve extrapolated the data gained in the first months of the year.
Migrations came from users worldwide, with the United States, India, the UK, Australia, and Canada being the top five countries.
To ensure a valid comparison, we standardised our data and calculated the percentage differences between the top three providers, adjusting for fluctuations caused by user base growth. All findings are based on data from our email migration tool and do not claim to represent the overall market share.
Our analysis focuses on the top three email providers, which together account for 100%. Including more providers (e.g., the top five or ten) would change absolute percentages but not the relative rankings among the top three.
Microsoft Office 365:Most Popular Provider Since 2024

Over the past five years, Microsoft Office 365 has emerged as the clear winner in email provider popularity. Its market share grew from 39% in 2021 to over 55% in 2024, with a projected increase to 61% in 2025.
This means that in 2025, around 6 out of 10 customers migrating with MailJerry will choose Office 365 as their new provider.
But where is this growth coming from? Let’s take a closer look at Gmail for answers!
Gmail’s Decline:How Office 365 Took the Lead

Gmail was long the most popular email provider among our users. In 2021, every second migration with our tool had Gmail as the target, increasing to 60% in 2022. However, while Gmail remains widely used, things started to change in 2023.
Since 2023, Gmail’s popularity has been steadily declining – from 60% in 2022 to 43% in 2024, with a predicted drop to 35% in 2025.

A closer look at Gmail vs. Office 365 reveals a striking shift. In 2022, Gmail saw +24% more migrations than Office 365, dropping to +13% in 2023. In 2024, Office 365 took the lead, with +12% compared to Gmail. For 2025, we expect the trend to continue in Office 365’s favour (+25%).
In short: Over the past three years, Gmail and Office 365 have swapped places, making Gmail the second most popular provider while Office 365 dominates 2024 and (likely) 2025.
iCloud:Privacy Concerns Drive Growth in 2025

With Office 365 and Gmail competing for the top two spots, it’s no surprise that Apple’s email service, iCloud, holds third place. After starting strong in 2021 with a 7% share, iCloud has seen a steady decline in popularity among our users, dropping to just 1.9% by 2024.
However, iCloud has experienced a resurgence in the early months of 2025, with a projected share of 3.2% by year-end.
So, what’s driving iCloud’s resurgence? Many MailJerry users report that they are becoming more privacy-conscious. Particularly businesses are looking for an email provider that prioritises data protection while still providing a rich feature set. For these users, Apple’s iCloud, known for its strict privacy policies, has become a preferred choice.
Summary:Office 365 Surpasses Gmail as iCloud Experiences Privacy-Driven Growth
Our analysis of email migrations performed with MailJerry between 2021 and 2024, along with predictions for 2025, highlights shifting trends in the email provider landscape.
Over the past years, our data reveals that Microsoft Office 365, Gmail, and iCloud are the most popular email providers among our customers. While Office 365 has steadily gained popularity, surpassing Gmail in 2024, Gmail’s popularity has declined in recent years. iCloud, initially losing ground, seems to experience a resurgence in 2025, driven by growing privacy concerns among our users.
