Your preference: Offline access on one device
If you wish to work on your emails even when you're not connected to the internet, POP is the best option. With POP, your emails are downloaded to your device. This allows you to access them even when you're offline. By downloading your emails, you also free up storage space on your mittwald account, which is an additional plus.

When opting for POP, please be aware that your emails are deleted from the mittwald mail server (depending on your exact configuration). Therefore, you should make sure to backup your device regularly!

Your preference: Access on multiple devices
If you wish to access your emails on multiple devices, IMAP is the best option. With IMAP, your emails are still stored on the mittwald mail servers and their status (read, sent, deleted…) is synced automatically across all devices. Furthermore, since your emails are still stored on the mail server, you don't need to worry about email backups!
