I need to migrate my emails to a new server but I want to keep my email address and domain. Can I use MailJerry to do so?
Yes! The IMAP email migration tool can connect with your old and new mail server, even if you want to keep the same email address and domain.
For the mail server that is not connected with your domain (usually the new mail server), simply enter an alternative mail server name (if provided) or the IP address of your mail server. In case you don’t know the IP address or whether an alternative mail server name (e.g. mail.myprovider.com) is available, contact your email provider / hosting company.
Next, simply enter the IP address or alternative host name in the field “mail server” and start your migration!
My new mailbox already contains emails. Is this a problem for the IMAP email migration tool?
No, not at all! The MailJerry IMAP email migration tool will not delete or modify any of your already existing emails. Before the data migration, MailJerry checks both of your mailboxes to prevent duplicates. If the same email is contained in your existing and new mailbox, it is skipped to prevent duplicates. The IMAP email migration tool also syncs the email status and flags (read, unread…). So feel free to start your IMAP email migration regardless of the contents of your new mailbox!
What types of Mailboxes are supported by the IMAP email migration tool?
MailJerry supports all types of IMAP and Exchange based mail servers. Since IMAP is the worlds most used email protocol, MailJerry is compatible with nearly every provider and server, including email providers like Gmail, Microsoft 365, Yahoo!, GMX or GoDaddy.
Our IMAP email migration tool also supports POP based mailboxes, as long as a copy of your email is stored on your mail server.
To sum it up:
- IMAP: Full support including email status and flags (e.g. read, unread…).
- Exchange: Full support, in rare cases some flags are not fully supported.
- POP: Only recommend if your account is set up to store a copy of your email on your mail server.
Can I migrate my POP based mailboxes with MailJerry?
MailJerry can only access emails that are stored on a mail server. Email data that is exclusively stored on your local device cannot be accessed by the mailbox migration tool.
Usually, POP based mailboxes are configured to download your emails to your device and delete the email on the mail server. In this case, you unfortunately cannot use MailJerry to migrate your data.
However, many POP mailboxes are set up to keep a copy of your email on the mail server (e.g. for backup reasons). In this case, feel free to use MailJerry to migrate your email data!
I purchased a 1 Day License but my migration seems to take longer. Will my migration stop after my license expired?
No. Once you’ve started your data migration with the IMAP email migration tool, it will finish – even if the license expires in the meantime. This also applies for the auto sync feature. In case you’ve activated the auto sync and your license expires afterwards, the sync will continue to work. However, without a valid license, you won’t be able to make changes to your email migration (e.g. turn the auto sync on / off or perform a manual sync).
Summary: If our migration is set up correctly and running, there is no need to upgrade your license or buy another one!
Can I close the MailJerry software / shutdown my PC or will this break my active migration?
The MailJerry IMAP email migration tool is a cloud based migration service. This means: Once you’ve started your migration, you can shut down the software and / or your computer. The email migration is performed on our email migration cloud, so it will continue to run, even if you shut down the software.
Pro tip: If you want to check the status of your email migration on the go, download the MailJerry app for Android or iPhone, enter your license key and monitor the progress of your data migration, even if you’re not in front of your computer.
My internet connection is very slow / has bandwidth restrictions. Can I use MailJerry anyway?
Of course – that’s one of the huge advantages of our cloud based IMAP email migration tool! MailJerry manages your data migration on our email migration cloud and migrates your data directly between your mail servers. This means that MailJerry does not use your internet connection / bandwidth for the data migration
The speed of your email migration is determined by the capabilities of your source and target mail server and in no way depending on your internet connectivity.
Summary: It’s absolutely safe to use our IMAP email migration tool, even with limited bandwidth and / or with an unreliable internet connection.
Are my emails downloaded to my computer during the email migration?
No. The MailJerry IMAP email migration tool migrates your data directly between your mail servers. Your emails are not stored on our email migration cloud and not downloaded to your device. Therefore, the data migration does not affect the bandwidth of your internet connection.
Does the IMAP migration tool delete emails or change my source mailbox in any way?
No! The purpose of the MailJerry tool is to copy the data in your existing source mailbox to your new target mailbox. The tool will and cannot modify or delete any data that exists in our source mailbox.
Does MailJerry migrate my contacts, calendars and files?
Not yet. MailJerry migrates all of your email data that is supported by the IMAP protocol. This includes all types of email content, attachments and email folders that are stored on your mail server.
Unfortunately, IMAP does not support contacts and calendars. That’s why every email provider stores contacts and calendars differently (if at all) and there is – unfortunately – not one global standard.
For the future, we’re planning on supporting cardDAV contacts and the contact / calendar formats used by major providers like Gmail. But as of today, there’s no way to develop a solution that works with every provider.
