If you prefer using POP over IMAP to configure your DreamHost email account in your email client, utilize the following settings for POP3:
POP3 Server | pop.dreamhost.com |
IMAP Port | 995(SSL) |
IMAP Security | SSL |
Username | Your DreamHost email address |
Password | Your DreamHost password |
When do I need to use POP3 instead of IMAP?
If you set up your DreamHost email account using POP3, your emails will be downloaded from the server and stored on your device. This means that you can access your emails even when you're offline. Furthermore, you also save disk space and do not run out of storage capacity on your DreamHost email account.
However, if you use multiple devices to access your DreamHost email account, you'll only be able to access your emails on the device where you initially downloaded them. So if you wish to read your emails on multiple devices, IMAP is the better option.
