IMAP vs. POP3 for @aim.com Email Usage
When adding your AIM email account to your email client, you might be unsure which protocol to use in order to be able to receive emails. Is IMAP or POP better? Here’s the answer:
IMAP keeps your messages stored on the AIM (AOL Mail) server and syncs your inbox across all devices. This means any changes you make (reading, deleting, or moving emails) are synchronised across all devices you added your email address to. If you use your @aim.com email on more than one device, IMAP is the best and recommended option.
POP3, in contrast, downloads emails to your device and stores them locally. This allows you to read your messages offline and helps reduce the amount of mail stored in your AIM account. However, emails downloaded via POP3 are usually only available on the device where they were retrieved, which can be limiting if you switch between devices.
In most cases, IMAP offers the most flexibility for @aim.com email users, while POP3 is best suited for single-device use and users who prefer local storage.
